Amazon's German workers may strike over pay

Amazon faces new labor trouble in Germany today as a major union called for a strike at  the e-commerce giant’s warehouse and distribution centers.

The dispute is over both pay and working conditions, according to a report from Reuters.

Amazon employs 9,000 people at its German warehouse and distribution centers and hires another 14,000 seasonal workers.

The labor union, called “Verdi,” is asking for increased pay as part of a broader collective bargaining agreement it reached with Germany’s mail order and retail industry. Amazon argues that its warehouse workers are not covered by the agreement.

The strike call targets five of Amazon’s nine German facilities and could last two to three days beginning today.
