With less than a day to go before its deadline, Amplitude has passed its $775,000 Kickstarter goal.
Rock Band developer Harmonix received enough money from backers today to successful fund its Kickstarter for this rhythm game. It’s at nearly $778,000 as of this report. It’s just the latest game from a big-name developer to capitalize on the crowdfunding phenomenon.

This was before Harmonix really hit it big in the genre with the popular Guitar Hero and Rock Band franchises. Now, it’s looking to revisit Amplitude with PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 versions.
At first, the Kickstarter had a hard time gaining traction, but interest picked up.

Other gaming Kickstarters from notable developers and designers have surpassed their goals. The Mega Man-inspired Might No. 9, for example, more than quadrupled its $900,000 goal with $3,845,170. Wasteland 2, a sequel to a PC role-playing game from 1988, received $2,933,252 in funding when it also asked for $900,000. Torment: Tides of Numenera, a spiritual successor to another popular PC role-playing game, Planescape: Torment, also asked for $900,000 but ended up getting $4,188,927 in funding.
Of course, while the Amplitude games had their fans, it was never as popular a franchise as Mega Man or as much a cult classic as Planescape: Torment or Wasteland. In fact, the entire rhythm genre saw its bubble burst a few years ago, when years of multiple Guitar Hero and Rock Band releases finally fatigued consumers.
Still, funding is funding, and Amplitude now has the support it needs to see release on the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3.
