Google revealed a handful of milestones today during its Nexus event: Most interestingly, Android now powers 1.4 billion active devices — up from 1 billion last year, and the company’s app store, Google Play, now has over 1 billion active users.
That 1.4 billion figure is large, but it’s important to note that it doesn’t represent the total number of Android users; some users own multiple devices.
Google went on to boast that there are now “more Chromebooks than every other device combined in U.S. schools.”
While the accuracy of this claim is debatable — the term “device” is pretty vague — it’s a clear dig at Apple, whose brightly colored iMacs long dominated many public school computer labs in the U.S.
