Apple is making an original TV series about apps with Will.i.am and Ben Silverman

Apple today confirmed reports that it’s working with the entertainer Will.i.am and producers Ben Silverman and Howard Owens on a new unscripted television series about the app ecosystem and app development.

“We’ve seen some really, truly inspiring and incredible stories from our developers in what they’ve done, where they come from, how they started and the problems they’ve solved,” said Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of Internet software and services, in an interview with the Hollywood Reporter.

This is one of Apple’s first few original TV productions. Apple is reported to be working on a show starring Dr. Dre, in addition to the new show with Will.i.am.

And this week, Apple started streaming “The Score,” a “docuseries” from Vice on music cultures in certain places, through its premium Apple Music service.

Netflix and Amazon are also making their own original TV content.

As of June 2015, Apple had 1.5 million apps available through its iOS App Store, which made its debut in 2008. The Apple TV and the Mac have their own app stores.
