Apple may ship roughly 80M iPhone 6 and 6 Plus units this year

Apple is reportedly ramping up production of the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, in preparation for possible high demand. When Apple released the iPhone 5S, the company couldn’t meet demand for months.

Apple may now be planning to ship as many as 80 million units before the end of the year, according to a new report from DigiTimes. The plan is to ship 10 million units before the end of September and ship the remaining 70 million throughout the fourth quarter.

DigiTimes reports are not always accurate, but the figure is consistent with earlier estimates of between 70 million and 80 million units to be shipped, as the Wall Street Journal reported in July.

In late August, Apple reportedly suffered production delays because of a change in product design. There was worry that Apple’s iPhone line up would ship late as a result. However, with both iPhone models slated for preorder on September 12, and in-store purchase on September 19, it seems the company may have overcome the previous production issues.
