Apple may name its 5.5-inch iPhone the ‘iPhone 6 Plus’

With rumors now indicating that Apple will reveal two different sizes of the iPhone 6, it begs the question what each will be officially named.

And now we might have an answer. Japanese Apple news site Macotakara is reporting that Apple is planning to call the 4.7-inch iPhone the “iPhone 6,” while the larger 5.5-inch model will be the “iPhone 6 Plus.”

The move to distinguish a product with a “plus” wouldn’t be unprecedented, with Apple offering a “Mac Plus” computer way back in the day, as 9to5Mac points out. (If true, it would be funny, considering the “plus” — or “+” — was how Google attempted to brand its social platform, which echoed through some of its other products.)

However, the “Plus” branding doesn’t fit in line with the rest of Apple’s current product lines.
