Starting today, Apple is giving customers in the U.S. who want an unlocked iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus the option of getting those models without SIM cards.

Previously, customers could buy an unlocked iPhone 6 and 6 Plus through T-Mobile. Once they got the gadgets, they still needed to either visit an Apple store or contact T-Mobile to activate the phone. After that, they could just discard the T-Mobile SIM card and select another carrier.

The new SIM-free option makes that process slightly easier because it removes the need for an activation call or visit. Customers just select the device they want, then purchase a nano-SIM card from any carrier around the world that supports iPhones.

The SIM-free iPhone 6 with 16GB of storage starts at $649. The iPhone 6 Plus with 16GB of storage starts at $749.
