The Apple Watch will be available at Best Buy retail stores from August 7. As the first major retailer in the U.S. to sell Apple’s smartwatch, Best Buy will initially stock more than 100 stores before expanding to more than 300 in time for the holiday shopping season.

Customers will be able to buy the Apple Watch Sport and Apple Watch, along with a range of accessories for the wearable device. However, the Apple Watch Edition (the one that costs $10,000 and is gold-encased) won’t be available for purchase.

“The Apple Watch is an important addition to an emerging product category, and we know our customers want it,” said Best Buy’s senior category officer Jason Bonfig.

The new retail channel will be good news for people interested in trying out the smartwatch and will give Apple an opportunity to reach more people and convince them to buy its product over an Android-powered version.

Exactly how many Apple Watches have been sold since its debut on April 24 still isn’t clear, and Apple refuses to provide any numbers. During the company’s conference call last week to discuss its quarterly earnings, CEO Tim Cook said he wouldn’t disclose the information so as not to provide competitors with helpful insights.

Best Buy has not yet named specific locations where the Apple Watch will be available. Naturally, the timing of the announcement gives interested parties sufficient time to try on the device and put it on their Christmas wish list. And for the retail giant looking to stand out against online competitors like Amazon, and physical rivals such as Target and Wal-Mart, having the Apple Watch on hand could be considered a great differentiator.
