Apple is reportedly trying to finalize deals with major record labels for its new music streaming service, and while the service will be mostly for-pay, there will be some freebies.

A report out today says Apple will offer a free trial period of one to three months to people who want to check out the subscription service.

Apple, the report says, will also provide a Soundcloud-type service where content owners can upload music that can be streamed by iTunes users for free.

A new version of iTunes radio will feature music curation by real humans, not just computers, the report says.

Other reports have said that Apple doesn’t not want to provide a free streaming music service tier, as its competitor Spotify has long done. Apple doesn’t believe there’s enough money to be made selling ads around such service tiers.

The company has even gone so far as to try to convince record labels to stop offering their content in free tiers.
