AT&T announces $795 Samsung Galaxy S7 Active with shatter-resistant screen and huge battery

AT&T and Samsung have unveiled their annual ruggedized version of the Korean manufacturer’s Galaxy S flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S7 Active (via Droid Life). As VentureBeat previously reported, while the 5.1-inch handset is nearly indistinguishable, aesthetically, from last year’s Galaxy S6 Active, it does include a number of functional enhancements.

Besides the upgraded Snapdragon 820 system-on-chip from Qualcomm, boosted 4GB of RAM, and bulkier 4000mAh battery, the QHD-resolution, Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow-powered device also brings a microSD slot, home button-embedded fingerprint reader, and new shatter-resistant screen this time around, to complement its IP68 certification for water and dust resistance.

Most of the other specs, including its 12-megapixel camera featuring DualPixel technology and 32GB of internal storage, carry over from its Galaxy S7 linemate.

The S7 Active goes on sale Friday, June 10 — in either Sandy Gold, Titanium Gray, or Camo Green — for $795 outright, or either $26.50 or $33.13 per month as part of a 30-month or 24-month AT&T Next plan, respectively. Purchasing the phone on a Next plan also entitles customers to a complimentary Samsung Gear S2 smartwatch.
