AT&T may get exclusive rights on Amazon's first smartphone

AT&T is set to be the exclusive carrier for Amazon’s hotly anticipated mobile phone, The Wall Street Journal reports.

BGR originally reported that AT&T might be the exclusive carrier for the new phone but was unable to confirm. The same article also revealed details about Amazon’s “Prime Data” plan, which is supposed to be markedly different from other data plans.

Amazon appears to be following in iPhone maker Apple’s footsteps. For three years AT&T exclusively carried the iPhone after its initial roll-out. The move gave AT&T a significant lead on the smartphone market.

Amazon is expected to unveil the its smartphone on Wednesday in Seattle.
