Today WordPress shepherd Automattic announced it has acquired British WordPress development shop and consultancy Code For The People.

A six-person agency, Code For The People is best known for its contributions to the WordPress core and for its multilingual WordPress plugin Babble. The news was announced during the Web Summit tech conference in Dublin.

For Automattic, “[this acquisition means] better support coverage during EU business hours,” WordPress VIP vice president Paul Maiorana told VentureBeat. “And just in general having more team members in locations proximal to our EU customers means we’ll be able to spend more time working with them on-site, or running training programs, and just overall providing a higher level of account management,” Maiorana said.

Automattic said that Code For The People’s John Blackbourn will “continue leading the development of WordPress 4.1 as part of Automattic.”

This has been a busy year for Automattic; the company also recently snapped up the makers of the BruteProtect security plugin and long-form content aggregators Longreads.
