Batman: Arkham Knight is the latest big game to slip into 2015

Gamers should have a pretty great 2015 … if only because that’s when they’re getting so many of 2014’s biggest releases.

Warner Bros. Interactive confirmed today that Batman: Arkham Knight is now due out in 2015. This comes just a couple of months after the publisher announced it with a 2014 release date in March. The open-world Caped Crusader simulator will now join a growing number of anticipated releases that won’t make their 2014 ship dates.

Arkham Knight is the latest Batman game from developer Rocksteady, and it is noteworthy because it is one of the first third-party releases that is skipping the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 hardware to hit only the new systems. Rocksteady is promising to deliver something that takes full advantage of the power of the PS4 and Xbox One, but it’s going to need more time to deliver.

The developer isn’t afraid to show the game off. Rocksteady recently gave GamesBeat a close look of the new Batman in action and showed us some of the Batmobile’s new abilities. But Rocksteady marketing producer Dax Ginn told Kotaku that “awesomeness takes time.”

As Batman exits 2014, he will join a wave of other releases that will now debut next year instead. Here’s a list of delayed triple-A games:

• Ubisoft’s open-world online shooter The Division
• Square Enix’s steampunk cover-shooter The Order: 1886
• CD Projekt Red’s fantasy role-playing game The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
• Remedy’s cinematic action game Quantum Break
• Techland’s survival-horror game Dying Light
• Warner Bros. postapocalyptic combat game Mad Max

In addition to the delayed games, developer Valve recently told its fans that it doesn’t plan to release the Steam Machine Linux-based console-like PCs until 2015. This also includes the Steam controllers, which the company continues to overhaul.

While a ton of stuff is slipping into 2015, we should still see plenty of big releases this year.

Barring any more delays, we should get Bungie’s multiplayer shooter Destiny, Ubisoft’s open-world racer The Crew, BioWare’s RPG Dragon Age: Inquisition, 2K Games’ asymmetrical online shooter Evolve, and more.
