Batman: Arkham Knight shows us what the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One are really capable of

If you judge the quality of the Batman based on the length of his ears, Arkham Knight’s caped crusader could kick the crap out of Ben Affleck.

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and developer Rocksteady are working on another Batman game called Arkham Knight. This time, the companies are building the action-adventurer for the new PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles. Today — finally — Warner Bros. revealed a new trailer of what this new Batman will look like in action. This marks the fourth entry in the Arkham series, and it will debut for PS4, Xbox One, and PC on Oct. 14.

This is the third Batman game from Rocksteady. The developer surprised gamers in 2009 when it debuted Batman: Arkham Asylum to high praise from critics and fans. In 2011, the studio followed up with the sequel, Arkham City, which expanded the Bat’s abilities and opened up a huge area for players to explore.

In October, Warner Bros. released Arkham Origins, a prequel, from developer WB Games Montreal.

Now, with Arkham Knight due out in a few months, this will make two years in a row with a new Batman: Arkham game. Warner Bros. is obviously finding a lot of success with the series, which likely encouraged it to speed up the production and release schedule.

Despite the quick turnaround, today’s new trailer at the very least looks like it is a significant leap over the previous three games. Arkham Knight is only coming to new systems and PC. Rocksteady can focus on taking full advantage of the new hardware without having to worry about making something that will also work on the relatively ancient Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 consoles.
