Today Poncho, a text message-powered weather service backed by investment firm and incubator Betaworks, announced its plans to launch in Texas next week.

The launch is (of course) timed for SXSW — the annual music, film, and tech festival in Austin which once served as a launchpad for Twitter.

Poncho’s announcement reads:

Who says only birds and grandparents head south for the winter? I’m over this cold weather situation, so very soon I will also be forecasting for the state of Texas, making the weather simpler for everyone in the Lone Star State.

This isn’t Poncho’s first expansion. The New York-based service already operates in Boston, Newark, Hartford, New Haven, Providence, Syracuse, Albany, and Chicago.
