If you’re planning to travel to (or already live in) certain European and Asian countries and like to get around on a bike, Spinlister now has you covered.

After ride-sharing and home-sharing made a splash, people are now moving into sharing their other useful yet expensive possessions such as bikes (we recently covered Spokefly, another bike-sharing service). And since European and Asian cities are usually more pedestrian and bike friendly and our built-for-cars American cities, Spinlister’s expansion is only logical. The bike-sharing service is now available in Canada, Germany, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Spain, Italy, Portugal, France, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Belgium, Sweden, Denmark, Austria, Japan, New Zealand, and Australia in addition to its American homeland.

Spinlister’s goal is to “connect 1 million bikes worldwide and become the largest bike sharing scheme in the world,” according to the company.

If you need to catch up — Spinlister is a gear-sharing service (bikes, snowboards and skis for now) through which people can loan or rent gear from others in their area, and it has a mobile app for on-the-go needs. It even insures the gear listed on the service (up to $5,000 for bikes and $1,000 for snow gear). Think Getaround for your other transportation gear.

Last time we checked in with the company in October, the service had 12,000 members, 2,000 bikes listed, and 1,500 rental days completed by 1,000 people. This is a long way from Spinlister’s goal, but hopefully this international expansion will help.

Spinlister is also taking a leap into charity and giving back — it’s now partnered up with RedBull’s Wings for Life for its World Run and will be donating proceeds and making it easy for its community to donate and sign up for the event.
