Box releases a widget for storing, sharing files

Box, a Palo Alto start-up, has released a way for people to store their files directly at a widget, and let anyone see and share them too. Its simplicity is catchy.

The Flash-based widget can be placed on your blog, your MySpace profile or just about any Web page. There’s an example, and more details here. Or just see below. There’s an example at Mypace, here (scroll down a bit).

It lets you pull up any audio, video or other file from your desktop. Box has made it viral, because if a person visits a site with the widget, the person can sign up directly for an account from the widget (though we’re having problems doing this, and have asked the company why the widget isn’t accepting our password; Update: Turns out, this was VentureBeat’s screwup, not Box’s). They can also take a copy of the widget’s files with them.

The feature is similar to Fabrik’s Myfabriklite.
