Q: Has answer service ChaCha raised $20M? A: Yes

chachaChaCha, a startup that answers questions on your computer or phone, has raised $20 million in a sixth round of institutional funding. The news was first reported in TechCrunch, and the company has confirmed it.

ChaCha’s “guides” answer a broad swath of questions. Right now, “trending questions” on the ChaCha site include “What does h.m.u. mean in text talk?” “Often imitated but never duplicated is the slogan what company?” and “Is there going to be a 3rd season of teen mom?” The answers are high-quality, since ChaCha pays between 3 cents and 20 cents per answer, but that also means ChaCha probably has to spend a substantial amount of cash to keep up.

The Indianapolis-based company says it answers most questions within 30 seconds and that it reaches more than 15 million users across its website, text message service, voice service, and on social networks like Twitter. It makes money through advertising.

The new round comes from investors VantagePoint Venture Partners and Rho Ventures. ChaCha has now raised a total of $72 million.
