Retro gamers rejoice! Halo publisher Bungie on Friday said it will re-release its 1994 hit game Marathon for the Apple iPad in the coming weeks. On top of that good news, the game will be free.
Bungie is arguably best-known for creating and publishing the immensely popular Halo series, which has sold more than 40 million copies worldwide. Before Halo, the company was also known for developing the Myth series.
The iPad version of Marathon exists because software developer (and Marthon fan) Daniel Blezek spent his spare time for more than a year porting the game over to iOS. Blezek says the game will run at 30 frames per second and will have a set of onscreen controls that mimic the original keyboard commands.
Marathon was a Mac-only first-person shooter and eventually had a sequel that was later ported to Xbox 360 back in 2007. The game takes place in the year 2794 on a spaceship called, naturally, Marathon. Users play as a security officer on the ship trying to hold back an alien invasion.
