Apple has taken part in several high-profile lawsuits as of late over patent claims, and whichever company wins usually ends up with substantial gains. Most recently, Apple lost in a patent battle with Nokia, with Apple agreeing to license several Nokia patents.

In typical big corporate fashion, Samsung counter-sued and said Apple was infringing on its patents.
In late May, Samsung requested that Apple give it unreleased versions of the iPhone and iPad because it would be “highly relevant” to its defense. Before this, a judge had ordered Samsung to hand over materials to Apple, but those were items that already had hit the market.
