You’re probably gonna have trouble killing the zombies this evening, and that’s not because they’re already dead.
H1Z1, DC Universe Online, and other games from publisher Daybreak are not working right now as the result of a cyberattack. If you’re getting a “LaunchPad could not establish a connection” error, this is the likely reason. Daybreak, which was formerly Sony Online Entertainment before spinning out from the PlayStation maker as an independent developer, took to social media to confirm that its services are the target of a DDoS (distributed denial-of-service) assault. This is an attack that barrages online servers with junk data that makes it impossible to tell legit information from garbage. It does not put personal info like passwords or credit card information at risk.
We are currently experiencing issues related to a DDoS, which is impacting logins and websites.

Gamers started complaining about the issue earlier today on forums for games like Planetside 2. The developers have taken notice, and they are trying to deal with the attack in order to get people back online.

“We have folks on this right now,” a Daybreak developer confirmed in the Reddit group for zombie-survival sim H1Z1.

This is not the first time cyberattackers have targeted Daybreak. In July 2015, former Daybreak chief executive officer John Smedley was harassed and targeted by a group calling itself Lizard Squad. Those vandals allegedly stole his identity, filed false tax returns in his name, and sent the police to his home. In response, he threatened to sue the people responsible, and that led Lizard Squad to run a DDoS on Daybreak games on July 9.
In August 2015, Smedley stepped down from Daybreak. The social-media account for the Lizard Squad group has been dormant for the last two months.
