Now here’s a telling sign that AT&T’s network reputation is in shambles: The popular Daily Show ran a long segment espousing the virtues of the Verizon iPhone while constantly referencing AT&T’s network failure.
Show host Jon Stewart expressed his frustration about the iPhone, calling it “the world’s most popular almost phone,” and he appeared genuinely grateful that he would finally be able to make calls reliably on Verizon’s network. The same sentiment ran through the show’s audience, as well as people interviewed on the street and in their homes.
While New Yorkers and San Franciscans are likely seeing the bulk of AT&T’s network failure, the fact that a national comedy show spent over seven minutes of running time on the issue is telling. Clearly, the Verizon iPhone isn’t something just geeks are clamoring for.
