Dailymotion today announced the launch of Dailymotion Games, a new live-streaming platform for gamers that is taking dead aim at the explosive success of Amazon’s Twitch service.
Like Twitch, Dailymotion says its new platform will provide a way for everyone from casual gamers to electronic sports celebrities to broadcast their play live to fans.

That kind of environment, which consists mostly of players who record videos and then upload them, is also a big draw on YouTube.
But San Francisco-based Twitch was leading the live broadcast market, and was growing so fast that it became the focus of a bidding war between Google, Yahoo, and Amazon last year. Amazon finally scooped it up in August for almost $1 billion.

“Dailymotion Games is entirely dedicated to eSports fans and streamers who come together every evening to form an amazingly talented and gregarious community,” said Martin Rogard, Dailymotion’s chief operating officer, said in a statement. “Over the coming months, we will significantly increase our investment in the eSport domain to ensure worldwide recognition of all our talented content producers.”
Dailymotion said its partners at the time of the launch include Eclypsia, Millenium, joinDOTA, OnGameNet, IGN, JeuxVideo.com, Gamespot or Gamekult. In addition, the company said users can download Dailymotion Games apps for iOS and Android. And PlayStation 4 users will also be able to watch live streams.
While Dailymotion has provided some live streaming for e-sports events, it still will be facing a big challenge to match Twitch, which now has Amazon’s massive resources behind it. Still, Dailymotion can’t be counted out.
The Paris-based video service has 128 million monthly unique visitors and more than 2.5 billon video views every month, making it one of the largest online video services in the world.
