DataPad, a technically impressive business-intelligence software startup that launched earlier this year, has been acquired and will shutter its service on Friday, according to an email the startup sent to beta users this morning.

DataPad has not said which company acquired it.

The startup emerged from stealth mode at VentureBeat’s DataBeat conference in May.

“Your data and your server credentials are safe and will be securely destroyed shortly thereafter,” the company said in the email.

Business-intelligence and business-analytics startups have attracted plenty of venture capital and acquisitions as of late. A notable example: Parastructure, which Dropbox acquired earlier this year. Even Salesforce.com recently suggested it would move into the area with the hint of a Salesforce Analytics Cloud announcement at the company’s Dreamforce conference next month.

DataPad’s chief executive and co-founder Wes McKinney is well regarded in the data world, having created the popular Python-based Pandas open-source library for data analysis.

In May, DataPad announced that it had raised a $1.7 million seed round. Accel Partners led the round. The A16Z Seed Fund, Google Ventures, Jeff Hammerbacher, Waikit Lau, Ludlow Ventures, and SV Angel also participated.
