LiveLoopIt’s easy to see why smaller companies ditched popular office software suite products like Microsoft Office in favor of cloud-based solutions as provided by Google Apps. However, for larger companies, neither option is ideal.

LiveLoop aims to change that by providing all the collaboration benefits of a cloud-based office suite with the portability and range of desktop apps from Microsoft Office.

Its product enables teams to easily collaborate together on business documents without the annoyance of partitioning up documents, assigning (and reassigning) responsibilities and emailing attachments back and forth.

“We don’t believe that software-as-a-service (SaaS) needs to be set in a Web browser — products like Google Docs are severely limited in features and performance…,” said LiveLoop founder Amal Dorai. “Other startups within this space have not built real-time collaboration technology (DocVerse, Offisync, Versly), so their collaboration experience is hampered. We achieve the best of both worlds.”

LiveLoop is a Microsoft PowerPoint plugin that replicates all changes to all connected users through the LiveLoop servers. Two important points to note: All your files are fully accessible and editable offline, so you can take your documents with you on the plane, and the LiveLoop server is available as an enterprise appliance for companies wishing to keep their documents inside their firewall.

Dorai said LiveLoop has been approached by many Fortune 500 companies as well as a number of small to mid-size businesses about their product since launching in 2010.

Founded in October 2010, the five-person San Francisco-based startup has a total $1.2 million in funding to date from New Enterprise Associates, Maynard Webb, Kevin Scott, Jack Jia and Eric Chen.
