TuneUp Media is one of 70 companies chosen by VentureBeat to launch at the DEMO Fall 2010 event taking place this week. These companies do pay a fee to present, but our coverage of them remains objective.

Have you ever downloaded a song to your computer only to have it appear in your music library as “Track 01” or “Unknown Artists”? A collection of these titles can make a music library a mess. New startup TuneUp Media today launched two additional features that are sure to help clean up your music library.

The company has developed a music tagging application that works with Windows Media Player and iTunes. The tool has four specific uses: naming untitled songs and fixing mislabeled songs, uploading cover art, incorporating video and artist bios, and providing concert information based on the user’s location.

With the company’s presence today at DEMO, it launches two new features: DeDuper, a tool that helps to eradicate duplicate songs better than before, and Lyrics, a tool that lets you find and add lyrics to a song. The company is also announcing that is has landed a third round of funding for $4.3 million from IDG Ventures and KPG Ventures.

TuneUp doesn’t clean your music on its own. It licenses technology from Gracenote, a company famed for its CDDB,  a database of CDs and other music sources which helps to identify music from more than 90 million indexed tracks. Using Gracenote’s database, TuneUp can analyze audio waveforms (tempo, frequency, power levels) to create an audio fingerprint, which then determines possible matches.

TuneUp competes with TidySongs and MediaMonkey in allowing users to fix song labels, remove duplicates, add album art and renames genres. The company claims t be the only tool that offers both clean up and music discovery.

The San Francisco-based company, founded in 2007,  has landed $6.5 million from three rounds of funding to date.
