DEMO: V3 Systems launches solution that makes virtual machines faster than local desktops

According to a study by research firm Gartner, growth in the worldwide hosted virtual desktop market will accelerate through 2013, when it will reach 65 million units, up from some 500,000 units in 2009. V3 Systems, a company presenting at DEMO, wants to tap into this market with five drop-in virtual-desktop appliances it’s announcing today.

V3 claims its technology makes virtual machines faster than local desktops.

Desktop virtualization, as an idea, detaches a computer’s desktop environment from a physical machine, running over the Internet instead. This is important because the service allows you to access your computer using remote devices, for example from a cell phone or your own home computer.

According to Chief Executive Peter Bookman, V3 Systems’ service will run virtual desktops at approximately half the cost of competitors’ services. One V3 Systems machine can run up to 300 desktops at the same time.

“We set out to transform the face of virtual desktop computing, and I believe we have done just that,” said Bookman.

V3 Systems achieves these levels of performance by using a proprietary optimized software layer called V3OL, which works together with the virtual machine to optimize the platform for the fastest possible experience. 

V3 Systems’ competitors include Dell and HP.

The company, which was founded in September of 2010, is led by Bookman, a serial entrepreneur that has spent his career involved in security solutions. V3 Systems has 24 employees and is headquartered in Salt Lake City.
