No, Blizzard didn’t accidentally reveal a new game or expansion.

Blizzard fans grew excited recently when they noticed a job listing on the company’s site for a director for a new project in the Diablo series. However, Blizzard told GamesBeat that this listing is simply to replace current Diablo III lead director Josh Mosqueira.

“With Diablo III in a good place at this point, Josh [Mosqueira] felt that now was a good time to pursue other opportunities with minimal impact to the team,” Blizzard told GamesBeat. “We’ll be filling the director role either from within Blizzard or externally.”

This makes sense considering that the listing notes that Blizzard is looking for someone to “lead the Diablo series into the future.”

Blizzard also noted that today was Mosqueira’s last day with the company.

“Josh made many contributions during his time here, and we loved working with him,” Blizzard told GamesBeat. “We wish him all the best and look forward to his future work.”

Josh Mosqueira became the game director for Diablo III in 2013, replacing Jay Wilson. When it launched in 2012, players criticized Diablo III for its real-money auction house and low drop-rate of items. Mosqueira spearheaded improvements to the game, console versions on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, and PC, and the expansion Reaper of Souls.

What will the new Diablo director work on? It could be anything from small patches to a new expansion. It might even be an entirely new Diablo game. Whatever it is, don’t read too much into that job listing. Instead, wait for BlizzCon this November. If Blizzard has something Diablo-related to announce, it will happen there. But if they’re just now looking for a director, it could take longer than a few months for whatever they’re working on to be ready.
