Digital deliverer ironSource scores $20M for its ‘one-stop shop’ for apps

Creating a great app is only the first step. Tel Aviv-based digital delivery platform ironSource is today announcing it has raised $20 million so it can continue helping developers take the next steps.

The platform handles app discovery, distribution, delivery, and monetization of desktop and mobile apps, with over seven million installs daily.

The company, founded in 2010 and with offices in Beijing, San Francisco, and New York City, says that more than 70,000 applications use its mobileCore SDK.

“Simply put, ironSource connects people and the apps they want and need across any device or platform,” CEO and cofounder Tomer Bar-Zeev told VentureBeat via email.

The platform, he said, “provides a comprehensive solution that takes care of everything necessary to turn that app into a scalable business.”

“We’ll help them get in front of the right user and, when selected, help ensure the software is installed on whichever device successfully.”

The new funding, the final tranche of a Series B round that totaled more than $100 million, brings the sum raised by the company to about $123 million.

Bar-Zeev said the new funding, most of which was provided by the U.S.-based Access Industries through its ClalTeh Israeli tech investment arm, will allow ironSource to continue “expanding our global footprint, as well as support our strategic acquisition strategy.”

In the coming year, he said, the company intends to expand its activities in Europe and South America. IronSource is also looking to strengthen its position in Android and iOS app discovery, he added, having “achieved comfortable market leadership in Windows and Mac.”

Bar-Zeev said that, because ironSource’s offering is diverse, it has different competitors in different spaces — including Google and Facebook, with which it also partners.

“What sets our solution apart is how comprehensive it is [since] we’re offering publishers a one-stop shop for their applications,” he said.

In December, ironSource announced a standalone ad server, installCore Fusion. In September, it bought mobile gaming studio Upopa.
