Dreaming of a white iPhone

According to the weatherman, New York is set to get another coat of white soon. Could a Verizon version of the iPhone, which is universally expected to launch today in New York, also get a snowy look?

Since then, white iPhone 4 prototypes have been reportedly spotted in the wild, like the one above, suggesting Apple may have fixed the technical problem. So could the new model, designed to work on Verizon Wireless’s CDMA network, also have a new look?

The suggestion outrages some on Twitter, who point out that Apple customers who have suffered with AT&T’s uneven network ought to get first crack at a new color. Then again, it’s a convenient way to know at a glance which network a given phone runs on.

We should know shortly what the Verizon iPhone looks like, and frankly, most expect it to look just like the AT&T iPhone 4. But it would be fun to see something different. With a new network expected to goose U.S. sales, Apple could easily afford to release it in more varieties. How about the rainbow spectrum of the early iMacs? Forget the white iPhone. I want one in orange.
