Dropbox finally gets a dedicated section for your recently used files

Cloud file sharing service Dropbox today announced that it has rolled out a new Recents section, to show users the files they have most recently added, moved, or edited on desktop. The section first appeared on iOS earlier this year, and it will arrive on Android over the next few months, as product manager Abhishek Agrawal wrote in a blog post today.

One nice thing about Dropbox’s Recents section is that it sensibly works across devices. “For example, if you need to leave the office but aren’t quite finished with that presentation, save it to Dropbox from your work computer. It will be at the top of your Recents page on your tablet, so you can quickly open it and continue working on the train ride home,” Agrawal wrote.

Believe it or not, publicly traded Dropbox competitor Box does not have a Recent section. (You can sort your files by date, though.) But Google Drive does, as does Microsoft’s OneDrive.

Dropbox launched an enterprise tier of service, HIPAA compliance, and the second version of its application programming interface (API) last week. Dropbox now has more than 400 million users and 150,000 paying business customers.
