Evernote launches chat, context, and presentation mode features out of beta

In a bid to challenge enterprise chat services like Slack and presentation giant PowerPoint, Evernote today announced the roll-out of its new chat and presentation mode features to all users.

Evernote first unveiled the updates at its EC4 company conference in October and gradually rolled them out to beta testers over the past two months. Now, Evernote said, the chat feature is live for all users on all platforms, and the updated presentation mode is live for premium subscribers on Mac and iOS.

In addition to chat and presentations, Evernote also rolled out its Context feature today, which apparently “uses augmented intelligence technology to find and surface relevant info to you as you’re working.” The Context feature is only available to premium Mac and iOS subscribers.

Here’s a closer look at the chat functionality, dubbed “Work Chat,” which introduces a hovering chat window above notes for all users. The idea, of course, is to encourage a collaborative work environment, and to keep users in the Evernote app for as long as possible.

As for the update to Evernote’s built-in presentation mode, the company said the feature now includes a “visual layout editor that allows you to insert/move page breaks, variable font sizes for display, automatic titling and captioning of images.”

Today’s release follows the launch of Evernote’s redesigned Web client, as well as Evernote’s $20 million round.
