If you’re going to work on an online collectible card game, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to bring on someone from the company that created the genre.
GalaCollider, a hybrid of 4X strategy design and competitive collectible card game concepts for PC and iOS, is gaining help on its competitive structure from ex-Wizards of the Coast VP George Skaff Elias. Given that the market is reported to be worth $1.2 billion, most of that coming from players spending $90 a year, bringing someone like Elias onboard is a sane investment in time and talent.

GalaCollider is also using a unique pack-purchasing approach. The game is free-to-play, but players need to pay for additional cards in predetermined packs. These packs are not random, and players know exactly what cards they are purchasing.
If this sounds interesting, GalaCollider’s Kickstarter campaign is going on right now. Although Elias is definitely a high-profile name on the project, judging from the Kickstarter video, he isn’t the only talented developer working on it. Developer NeoCrux is showing a roster of talent coming from several major board and video game companies, which include stints at Nintendo, EA, and Disney.
