Facebook and Twitter reportedly blocked in Turkey following Ankara terrorist attack

Numerous reports signal that the Turkish government has issued a social media ban following a terrorist attack in capital city Ankara. The attack reportedly killed more than 86 people during a peace rally.

This ban, which does not yet appear to be in effect country-wide, is not unprecedented. In Turkey, Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube faced censorship last year over criticism of Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Twitter and Facebook did not immediately respond to requests for comment on the matter.
