Facebook buys Moves exercise diary app, service will live on

Facebook just bought itself an exercise app.

It has snapped up Moves, a popular exercise app and pedometer. The app will live on, according to a blog post from Moves maker ProtoGeo Oy, a Finnish company founded in 2012.

From the company’s announcement:

For those of you that use the Moves app – the Moves experience will continue to operate as a standalone app, and there are no plans to change that or commingle data with Facebook.

While the app will continue to operate as the team joins Facebook, ProtoGeo Oy’s announcement suggests that the team will also focus on existing Facebook services:

Moves competes with numerous similar services, including Human. Among all of these passive activity tracking apps, the goal is to lower the barrier to entry for a healthy lifestyle.
