Update at 11:24 a.m. Pacific: A Facebook spokesperson confirmed that because Facebook is rolling out the service over the next few hours, the link might be temporarily broken for users.

With Thanksgiving around the corner in the U.S., and Facebook helping millions of people stay in touch with those that matter to them, Facebook announced it’s launching Say Thanks, a way to send a short video card to a friend or loved one through Facebook.

To send one, users simply navigate to the Say Thanks site, select a Facebook friend they’d like to send the video to, and edit and personalize the generated reel with different themes, a message, and the photos themselves. When they’re ready to share it, the video gets posted on the user’s own timeline, tagging their friend so they can see it.

Along with connecting us with people and brands, giving us games to play, and serving us with ads upon ads, Facebook has also been known to come up with warm and fuzzy feeling-inducing services like this one. In late 2012, we got the Year In Review feature that generated a collage of a person’s most popular content during the year based on comments, likes, and so on. Year in Review is still available, by the way, leading us to assume Say Thanks will stick around as well.
