Final Fantasy’s Lightning did a fashion interview, and yep, it’s weird

Here’s one of odder things you’ll read today.

Lightning, the main character from the Final Fantasy XIII role-playing game, recently became a model for fashion brand Louis Vuitton. That’s already pretty strange. But you know what’s weirder? An bizarrely sincere interview with the fictional character that’s filled with as much melodrama as the actual script for Final Fantasy XIII. And that’s exactly what The Telegraph did, and it is … interesting.

Just check out lines from Lightning like this, talking about designer Nicolas Ghesquière.

“All this time, I thought the only style that suited me was one that mirrored who I was: strong and tough. But I was wrong. He changed the way I see myself. Perhaps I’m finally learning who I truly am.”

Or this:

“My clothes were nothing more than armor to stay alive; ‘dressing up’ was a concept I’ve never had. Perhaps that makes me an unseemly choice as ambassador. But this experience has opened my eyes. Fashion isn’t something you’re taught or given, it comes from your own taste and your own choices. It displays the essence of who you are to the people around you.”

That’s awfully intense. And does this line hint that Lightning might make an appearance in the Final Fantasy VII Remake?

“One day, not so far in the future, I will be out there again, in a world of strife. But I won’t be the same person I was before. I will return to my origins, like a Mobius strip, but it’ll be a new me, one who has evolved.”

Strife? Like Cloud Strife, the hero of Final Fantasy VII? OK, maybe I’m reading too far into this. Still, Square Enix seems so invested in shoving Lightning down our throats, it wouldn’t surprise us.

Or maybe we’re just going to get Final Fantasy XIII-4: Lightning Returns Again.
