First look at the Tesla Roadster, the all-electric (clean) sportscar

We wrote about Tesla recently. Below is a photograph (click to enlarge). It is being unveiled this evening in Santa Monica, Calif. See the all the details in the company’s latest press release.

The “Tesla Roadster” is all-electric, with a range of 250 miles per electric charge, and is capable of going from 0-60 mph in about 4 seconds, according to the company. It is Silicon Valley’s latest bold clean tech effort. It has $60 million in financial backing, led by PayPal founder Elon Musk and others. (See another post here.)

Unfortunately, we couldn’t be down there for the unveiling. We’ll try to point to stories written by people who test it.

Update: Here’s the New York Times story, providing more context, but still not test drive experience. We forgot to mention it will sell for $85,000 to $100,000. The NYT mentions it doesn’t hit second gear until 65 mph.
