Funding daily: Dropbox rules

Fridays are typically a slow day for the deals channel. However, Dropbox sneaked up on us with a massive $250 million funding round at a massive valuation close to $10 billion. We’re expecting a public offering from the fast-growing cloud company sometime in 2014.

Dropbox closes another $250M, rocketing valuation to $10B

Dropbox has closed a long-anticipated $250 million in new funding, according to a report in the Wall Street Journal. This puts the cloud-storage firm’s valuation close to $10 billion and makes Dropbox one of the highest-valued venture-backed companies out there. Read the full story on VentureBeat.

Crowdlending platform Dealstruck raises $1.2M

Dealstruck, a startup that claims to be the first crowdlending provider to provide multiple financing products, closed a $1.2 million seed-stage investment round. The company helps small businesses find the right loan. Unnamed Southern California-based angels filled the round.

PowerUp Toys surpasses $1M raised for its iPhone-controlled paper airplanes

PowerUp Toys has raised more than $1 million via crowdfunding for its clever toy that attaches a real toy airplane motor to a paper airplane. You can control the airplane with the touchscreen on your iPhone. The small company has more than 18,000 backers in a Kickstarter campaign that still has more than eight days to go. Originally, inventor Shai Goitein wanted to raise just $50,000. Now it is the ninth-most-funded project in the crowdfunding site’s design category history. Read the full story on VentureBeat. 

Molecular diagnostics startup QuanDx raises $950K

Biotech startup QuanDx has received $950,000 in funding from undisclosed investors. The company received funds from 10 investors. QuanDx hopes to raise an additional $550,000 through this current offering round. The company also closed a $300,000 investment last March.
