Coursera raises $49.5M to help it expand to Latin America, China, and India
Coursera wants to accelerate its global expansion, so it went out and raised some more cash. The online education service has raised $49.5 million in the first closing of its Series C round. The company expects to bring in an additional $10.5 million by this fall, to bring its total to $60 million.
The new round of financing is led by one of Coursera’s original investors — New Enterprise Associates. Other firms participating include Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, International Finance Corporation, and Times Internet Ltd., which is a subsidiary of Bennett, Coleman and Company Ltd. Coursera has also revealed that GSV Asset Management and Learn Capital will be participating in the second close.

Big data startup BlueData partners with Intel and takes on $20M
BlueData, a startup with an application companies can use to run big data software like Hadoop and Spark on their existing data center infrastructure, announced today a new $20 million round of funding. The company also announced a major new partnership deal with chipmaker Intel.
Existing investor Intel Capital led the new round in BlueData. An unnamed new investor is also on board, as are existing investors Amplify Partners, Atlantic Bridge, and Ignition Partners.
BlueData started in 2012 and is based in Mountain View, California. Customers include Comcast, Orange, and Symantec.
Biometric authentication innovator Nok Nok Labs raises $16.25M
Multi-factor authentication firm Nok Nok Labs has raised $16.25 million in investor funding, closing out its series C round.
Known for supplying biometric identification technology to enterprises, Nok Nok Labs first announced a third round raise of $8.25 million in funding late last year. In total, the company has accrued $51.8 million in funding over the last two years. The new cash will be used to fuel growth in Asia.
