Toast raises $30 million for Android-powered point-of-sale system to challenge Square
Toast announced that it has raised a $30 million series B funding round to support its Android point-of-sale (POS) system for restaurants. This latest investment was led by Bessemer Venture Partners and will be used for hiring talent, updating products, and marketing. Additional investors include GV (formerly Google Ventures), along with unnamed private investors.
Hometeam takes in $27M to help families plan senior care services
New York-based startup Hometeam announced earlier this week that it took in a $27.5 million investment led by Oak HC/FT and Lux Capital. Hometeam says it helps users plan and find the senior care service that fits the needs of older adults and their families — from home care and adult day companionship to nursing homes.

Vacation search engine Holidu raises $5.4M
Holidu, a German search engine for vacation rentals, announced today that it closed a €5 million round ($5.4 million) led by EQT Ventures. The Munich-based company said it will use the series A investment to accelerate growth and expansion.
The startup said its service, available in five languages, searches for the cheapest accommodation across over 100 websites.

German startup Blinkist raises $4 million to help you read nonfiction books in 15 minutes or less
Blinkist, a Germany-based startup that gives you the gist of well-known nonfiction books in 15 minutes or less, has raised €4 million ($4.3 million) to accelerate product development and expand in the U.S. and across Europe.
Blinkist said it will use its series A investment to ramp up its marketing efforts, create partnerships with publishers on both sides of the Atlantic, and build new products.
