Goldman Sachs & GE Ventures back Rethink Robotics in $27M round
Some serious investors are betting on robot-making startup Rethink Robotics in a new funding round. GE Ventures led the $26.6 million round, in which Goldman Sachs also participated, as did Bezos Expeditions, CRV, Draper Fisher Jurvetson, Highland Capital Partners, Sigma Partners, and Two Sigma Ventures, according to a statement the startup issued today.
Because sales reps have more to do than update their handouts, Seismic nails $20 million
“Sales enablement” is a still-evolving term. It covers delivering up-to-date content to salespeople, training them, providing them with tools for closing a deal, and more. Today, cloud-based sales enablement provider Seismic announced it has finalized $20 million in a Series B round to support its definition of the term, which leans more heavily on the content side.

GraphLab gets $18.5M, changes name to Dato to reflect a broader focus on data
GraphLab, a startup that has emphasized the power of graph databases for storing and analyzing certain kinds of information, is announcing today a new $18.5 million funding round as well as a new name: Dato. The idea is to convey that the startup can work with data in many formats, not just graphs. In October, Dato released commercial software for machine learning, GraphLab Create. It was based on open-source software called PowerGraph that first developed in 2009.
Peter Thiel’s Founders Fund pours funds into the company behind Leafly, an online cannabis community
Venture capitalist Peter Thiel is investing in marijuana. Well, sort of. Founders Fund, a venture capital firm he cofounded, is announcing today that it participated in cannabis-focused private equity firm Privateer Holdings‘ $75 million round of funding, of which it has secured about $50 million so far. (To be clear, Founders Fund partner Geoff Lewis is leading this investment, not Thiel.)
AlayaCare raises $2.4M
AlayaCare, a maker of software for home care providers, announced it has raised $2.4 million in new funding. Klass Capital led the round, along with unnamed angel investors.
