Gamevil announced today that its games have been downloaded to mobile devices more than 200 million times. That’s a big milestone for the South Korean company, which has offices in Tokyo, Seoul, and Los Angeles.

It attributed the large number to its Partner Fund, which has invested more than $20 million in third-party game developers. It has more than 40 developers in its fold. They develop games that Gamevil distributes across Apple’s iTunes App Store and the Google Play store for Android devices.

Not many companies have hit the 200 million download number. But to put this in perspective, Rovio’s Angry Birds games alone have been downloaded more than 1 billion times.

Gamevil also said it has hired Won Il Sue, who is well known in the gaming industry for his senior management role at Nexon. He was formerly the CEO of Nexon Korea and was most recently vice president of corporate development at Nexon America. Sue will serve as senior vice president of Gamevil USA.

“I feel very lucky to be part of this company that has seen such extraordinary growth,” stated Won Il Sue. “It’s not only one of the top mobile game publishers in the world, but with the numerous years of experience the company has had in the mobile space, it is an industry leader. I want to bring my online gaming experience and knowledge to this industry and work with Gamevil to make it even bigger and better. I look forward to tackling the quickly evolving challenges in the mobile gaming industry.”

Gamevil was founded in 2000.
