Once a year, the top three two tech blogs get together to put aside their differences and celebrate the best of the tech world.
VentureBeat is again joining up with TechCrunch to host the Crunchies, and this will be the eighth year in a row we’ve done it. Yes, they’re called the “Crunchies,” not the “Beaties,” but for some reason, we’ve never gotten very far when we tried to convince the TechCrunch people to change the name. Whatever: It’s a fun party, and we’d like to invite you to join in with us. The event will take place on February 5, 2015 at 7:30 p.m.

J. Miller, costar of HBO’s Silicon Valley. He plays Erlich Bachman on the series, a character who had some success as an entrepreneur, bought a house, and turned it into an incubator for other aspiring entrepreneurs. He’s a long-haired, pot-ingesting dude whose approach to brainstorming a company name has something in common with any number of Silicon Valley bullshit generator scripts.
It’s sure to be a fun night filled with barbed jokes about Silicon Valley’s weird combination of self-deprecating nerdliness and hyper-ambitious ambition. Plus, Uber.

Of course, the Crunchies wouldn’t be the Crunchies without some audience input. So get your nominations in now — we’re accepting nominations until December 3, and after that, we’ll pick a few finalists and invite you to vote on your favorites.
Will your votes determine the ultimate outcome? Of course not — after all these years, it’s still way too easy to stuff the ballot box using automated scripts. But when we sit down with the editors of TechCrunch to decide which tech companies, entrepreneurs, and investors represent the best of 2014, we’ll definitely take your nominations and votes into account. Honest.
If nothing else, it’s a hell of a night: The Crunchies are a gala affair at San Francisco’s Davies Symphony Hall with some of the leading lights of Silicon Valley. Want to attend? You can buy Crunchies tickets here. Or, if you’re interested in sponsoring the event, talk to our sales team at sales@venturebeat.com.
