Code-repository company GitHub is giving companies more options for deploying its software in on-premises data centers, which should help the tool become more popular for collaborating on and shipping software.
Today’s news is support for the OpenStack open-source cloud software that some companies operate inside their own server farms. GitHub Enterprise 2.1.0 packs support for OpenStack running atop the KVM hypervisor, which can run multiple virtual machines on each physical server, according to a GitHub blog post today.
It’s also possible to run GitHub Enterprise on VMware’s proprietary cloud software. And in November GitHub announced the availability of GitHub Enterprise on top of the Amazon Web Services public cloud.
Another nifty feature of GitHub Enterprise 2.1.0: a dashboard to track the health of the software running inside companies’ data centers. An Admin can track disk, memory, and CPU utilization on the dashboard.
