Glassdoor: Employees rank Google’s Larry Page as CEO of the year; LinkedIn’s Jeff Weiner loses top spot

Career website Glassdoor today released its latest report highlighting 2015’s top 50 chief executive officers, and once again the tech world played a big role in the list. This year, Google CEO Larry Page unseated LinkedIn CEO Jeff Weiner from the number one spot, which he grabbed last year from Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg.

It’s really not a huge surprise that Page has assumed the throne. Google was recently voted the best tech company to work for in the U.S., after all.

Glassdoor compiled its figures based on company reviews submitted by U.S.-based employees between April 22, 2014 and April 21, 2015. For a CEO to be considered, he or she had to have received at least 100 reviews from employees during the past year. Only 20 of the top 50 CEOs this year were on Glassdoor’s report last year.

Last year, Page was 10th with a 93 percent approval rating. This year, he received a 97 percent approval rating. Weiner meanwhile saw his CEO approval rating drop 7 percentage points to 93 percent, putting him at #12 overall (#6 in tech).

Only 15 tech CEOs made the list this year, compared to 20 tech CEOs on the 2014 list. Here they are, along with their approval ratings:

Zero female CEOs made the tech list and the overall top 50 list in 2015. In 2013, one made it, and in 2014 there were two. At least in terms of chief executives, the gender gap has not improved.

“Gaining the trust and approval of an entire workforce is one of the most difficult yet rewarding responsibilities for any leader,” said Robert Hohman, Glassdoor CEO and cofounder. Yet somehow, Weiner managed to get a perfect approval rating last year. Not even Page matched that this year.
