Google Docs and Sheets now support Split View on the iPad Pro

Google today added a much wanted feature to its Google Docs and Google Sheets apps for iOS. Now people with the 9.7-inch or 12.9-inch iPad Pro will be able to work on Docs documents or Sheets spreadsheets in one side of the Split View mode that’s available exclusively on those tablets.

Split View is one of a few features that’s only available in iOS 9. The feature will also work in iOS 10, which is set to be released this fall.

Initially when the original 12.9-inch iPad Pro came out, Google Docs and Sheets looked funny, because they only worked in portrait mode on a fraction of the Retina Display. So Google added full-resolution support for Docs and Sheets on the iPad Pro in March — but the update was missing a key feature, Split View. Now Google has solved that problem.

Even though it pushes the Android mobile operating system that competes with iOS, Google has come out with some impressive iOS apps lately: the Gboard virtual keyboard and Motion Stills, which stabilizes Live Photos. Now the widely used Docs and Sheets work as well as any other first-party Apple app on the iPad Pro.

Meanwhile, Microsoft’s Word and Excel apps support Split View on the iPad Pro.
