Google hides an elegant Easter egg for LGBT Pride celebrations

Google has a long history of supporting the queer community. Today, the search giant revealed an elegant Easter egg in Docs, which automatically turns a spreadsheet rainbow colors after spelling “p-r-i-d-e” in consecutive cells. If users search “gay pride”, there’s also an additional Easter egg that displays a rainbow banner above the search results.

This isn’t the first Pride-ful Easter egg; last year, they created a special rainbow frame for users who searched the word “gay”.

For the past few years during major elections, Google has leveraged its considerable reach to spread campaigns for marriage-equality ballot initiatives (such a the video below).

While Google has been one of the most vocal, nearly every major tech company has come out in support of marriage equality. Prior to the epic Supreme Court rejection of California’s Prop 8, dozens of the top companies sent a letter supporting the Court’s eventual decision.

“By singling out a group for less favorable treatment, Proposition 8 impedes businesses from achieving the market’s ideal of efficient operations — particularly in recruiting, hiring, and retaining talented people who are in the best position to operate at their highest capacity,” Google wrote.

Indeed, the tech companies seem to be on the winning side of history, as this gif below shows the exponential increase in marriage equality laws around the country over the last decade.
