Google Keep now lets you add labels, set up recurring reminders, and export notes to Google Docs

Google Keep got a significant update today, with feature announcements trickling out throughout the day. The app now lets you add labels and recurring reminders to notes, as well as export your work to Google Docs.

If you head over to keep.google.com, you should get a prompt about the first two additions: “Add labels to your notes! From your daily to-dos to new sources of inspiration, Keep can help you stay organized. Set up recurring reminders to never miss a beat.”

Labeling is a very quick way to organize your notes. As you can see in the image above, the feature works on Android as well as the web.

Google Keep has supported reminders for a while now (I’ve hit the “Remind me” button accidentally a few times) but they only work once. If you want to be reminded about, for example, your shopping list every day until you actually manage to go to the grocery store, this is for you.

Google Keep is a useful note-taking tool, but it’s meant to be very simple and straightforward. As a result, it’s not very powerful. If you ever start taking notes on something that might eventually turn into much more, you no longer have to play around with selecting everything, copying it, opening a new document in Google Docs, and pasting it.

All you have to do is select the menu button on your note, choose “copy to Google Docs,” and hit Open Doc. From there, you can take your work to the next level by adding more text, editing as you please, and formatting your work properly.

Google seems to be adding features to Google Keep more frequently as of late. The last update added the ability to share lists and filter by attributes, and before that the Android app received Google’s new Material Design. The app has come a long way since its debut in May 2013.
