Google launches slideshow app on iOS, updates Docs & Sheets with Office support

Google announced today a major update to its iOS productivity suite, introducing a new “Slides” slideshow app, updating existing “Docs” document editing, and “Sheets” spreadsheet apps with new editing features.

Going forward, Google touts, iOS users can now “open, create, and edit native Microsoft Office files with the Google Docs suite.”

Google’s apps have largely fared well on iOS, but the company has experienced increased competition from Microsoft. According to app tracking site App Annie, Google Docs ranks #7 among productivity apps in the U.S. on iOS and #240 among all apps in the U.S on iOS. Microsoft Word for iPad, by comparison, ranks #1 among productivity apps in the U.S. on iOS, and #13 overall.
